Didnt know where to put this so just post it here.

Basically ive just got all my new pc set up everything is working fine but Steam.

It simply wont update after installation and keeps getting stuck and i cant work out why.

Anyone any ideas?

I had this... What I did was delele all the files in the steam folder with exception to the steam.exe and then just run this and it re-downloads all the files and fixes any problems..

Backup any games you might have if you don't want to re-download those first if you have games installed..

Steam is quite easy to get up and running amazing program that doesn't even need an installer, all you need is an active net connection and the steam.exe file..

Well that worked for me last time anyhow..

Yeah just read about that tried it but its stuck on 30% again.

Could always try this -

How to perform a proper, clean reinstall of Steam:

Write down your Steam Account name and password - you will need them to log back into Steam once you have reinstalled
Logout of Steam if you are able to do so
Exit Steam
Move SteamApps out of the Steam folder. This is the folder that holds your games so you want to keep it!
If you are having problems with a specific game, delete its folder from SteamApps/<account> - Uninstall via Add/Remove programs, if you can
Restart if prompted
Delete Steam folder if it still exists
Hit windows key + r ( run at the start menu ) and type regedit
Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve (or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve on 64-bit Windows)
Restart
Download and install a fresh copy of the Steam installer from http://www.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.msi
Run the installer
Exit Steam before you first login
Move your SteamApps folder back
Run Steam.
