Hey, I'm going to be taking my laptop on holiday for some gaming here and there and was wondering how to get Steam to work in Offline Mode? When I switch to it and it restarts, upon restarting it says:

'Unable to connect to the Steam network. 'Offline Mode' is unavailable because there is no login information stored on this computer.

You will not be able to use Steam until you can connect to the Steam network again.'

Kind of defeats the purpose of Offline Mode doesn't it?
Does anyone have a fix? Or is it time to bust the Steam.dll/no-CD cracks out?

Thanks.

I am, I'm on Steam on my laptop right now, and then when I switch to Offline Mode through the settings I just get that error upon restarting.

You are not Logging Out are you?

Open Steam, Login
Quit Steam (NOT LOGOFF)
Disconnect your network
Open Steam, will error out as no connection and should offer offline mode.

I have it all set to auto-login like it states, and I go to the Offline Mode option in the top left hand corner and I get the error. If I disconnect from the Internet it does the same thing, just comes up with the

'Unable to connect to the Steam network. 'Offline Mode' is unavailable because there is no login information stored on this computer.

You will not be able to use Steam until you can connect to the Steam network again.'

error no matter what, it claims there is no Steam login information stored on my computer.

Right I exited Steam manually, and disconnected from my network and then tried to reopen Steam and got the same bull****.

Always-on DRM = fail.

Hmm, maybe try logging into then out of steam on main pc and then trying the offline mode on the laptop?

Make sure you start the game you want to play at least once before changing to offline mode mate :)

I remember that causing all sorts of issues at a lan once

Tried everything now, just launched every single one of the games I had installed for the first time launch hoops you have to jump through, tried going into Offline Mode again and the same bull****. Piratebay here I come. It's a shame when you have to crack games you legally own just to get them playing, always-on DRM ftl.

When you log into Steam normally (when connected to the net), does it prompt you for your password?

Nope, I have it set to auto-login, so it definitely has my data stored on my PC, it's just a ****, buggy program, always has been.

Uninstall it and cease using it then.

Offline mode has worked for me in the past and does now, either something with your config is funky or you are doing something silly.

Offline Mode hasn't and still doesn't work for hundreds of people, a quick Google search tells you that, and sadly none of the fixes actually work.

Remember, just because something works for you doesn't mean it will work for everyone, and it doesn't mean it's an issue on their end. Got illegal pirated versions of games I actually legally own on my laptop now, lel. I remember when Blizzard got crucified for something similar to this, dem double standards.

Edit: Offline Mode works perfectly on my PC, wonder what it has against my laptop.

I never said it was. It's not even about Steam. I'm saying that you have so many issues like that this that it can't be anything but PEBKAC.

When ever I have an issue, it is shared by a fairly large portion of the internet. Funnily enough the only thing I've ever had an issue with is Steam, and each issue was fixed through workarounds or via Steam updates. Steam has a million different bugs, I just so happen to get effected by a large portion of them and you can claim it's my fault all you want, anyone who knows each situation will know you're wrong. :)

Can't think of anything else I've had issues with, other than Crysis which was fixed when I changed motherboards. Steam isn't a hard program to use, there isn't any reason as to why it would refuse to work in Offline Mode, it works fine on my PC and I did nothing differently. My laptop is in perfect condition.

What do you mean that I'm cursed? Cursed to have the majority of the things that can go wrong with a program go wrong? Pretty much yeah.
