I'm currently out of the country with the MOD and have 100mins internet a week (56K on a good day as well) to skype the wife and do any surfing i may wish to do.

Steam seems to be dropping the logon info for my account about once every two weeks which requires me to let it log in properly over the internet taking up a good 20 mins.

Anything i can do to stop this annoyance?

You can change the region location within steam settings. (to whatever location or closest to). This should give you a better response time to steam and make best of your limited bandwidth.

in other words make it faster :D

I think the easiest way is whenever you start Steam - ensure that your network cable is unplugged, and you have no other active networks.

This will definitely tell Steam that there's no possible way to start in online mode, and should then always start in offline mode.

I think i will give disabling the wifi adapter a go and see if that sorts it out.

Yeh the internet here is shocking think upwards of 2 mins to load your facebook news feed, on the plus side though i'm fairly confident i have the fastest PC in the country.

i find steam is crap in offline mode if you were online when you last finished using it and then want to start in offline.

if you restart in offline mode (whilst online). Then it from then on its fine. And it asks you on every restart whether to stay in offline. (you could even block the exe in your firewall so it has no chance of seeing any sort of internet no matter how slow it is).
