Steam problem again

hi all

after installing a new hdd and fresh install of windows xp pro sp1 i ahd installed steam, updated it and installed and updated dod source.

after restarting jsut now because steam wouldnt load, the problem has persisted.

this used to happen on my old hdd and install, so im lsot for ideas on solving the problem.

aperntly, steam is already open, but the menus arent there and i any time i click one of the shortcuts, nothing happens, unless i click the steam one, in which case it tells me that steam is already running.

please help im at my whits end

whats the deal with sp2

i hated it when i had it last time, caused more problems than it fixed

any real reason to have it, i mean i dont wmp, or really any microsoft stuff
