steam problem?

I've got "steam is scanning for game updates" message and I can't do anything with the program at all, including play games. If I cancel it, it just loads back up when I load a game again lol.

Ideas?

i decided to finally play through half life 2 as i never actually finished it 2 days ago. Stuck waiting for the updates. at least its moving now

don't know if it's my imagination but the game seems to look twice as good as it did before.

changes i've noticed up to now are they have removed the weapon hud at the top when switching weapons now they just scroll through your hands

lol I just opened Steam go get these updates before I have to go to work and they were individually downloading at 1Kbps!
