but when i tried to reinstall steam and point to drive d it wouldnt let me do it
so i sacked it and pointed it back to drive c but now none of my games play

im a bit of a noob when it comes to things like this so could someone pls give us some help sorting it out pls thanks!

Why wouldn't it let you install to your other drive? Give you any errors?

The only folder you really need is your steamapps folder, as that contains all the game files. You can delete all the other files, bar that, then install Steam again, and it should then update itself, and then all your games should be pretty much ready to play.

Delete everything in the steam folder, except steamapps, then try reinstalling. Also make sure it's running with Administrator privileges when you're running the install, see if that works.

It's not a good idea to install steam as administrator - steam won't then be able to start up with windows.

Start up in safe mode, delete everything in steam folder except steam apps, and then reboot and reinstall steam.

so if you have left your games on d: and installed steam on c: then why would they play ?

really you shouldnt have uninstalled steam at all, just a cut and paste(of the whole steam folder) would have done, then you just run the steam.exe and it sorts the rest out for you, it's quite noob friendly.

rename the folder on d: to steam 2 and cut and paste steam from c: to d:, then double click the steam.exe(d:\steam) and it should start up fine.....then you just copy the steamapps from steam2 into steam. if the games dont work straight away just click install but you wont have to actually download and install them as they are already there. it may say downloading but it will probably just be checking the files.
