Steam problems

Before I go down the route of contacting Steam support (and I can't remember my password...sigh) I wonder if anyone knows a solution to the problem I'm having.

Basically two games I'm trying to launch, won't.
First game, TW Shogun Two thought I was running for the first time and proceeded to install Direct X etc. then the exe crashes on launch.

So I thought I'd try Grid 2 (which I haven't played for a while), and that exe also crashes whilst going into a loop attempting to restart and crashing continuously.

Company of Heroes runs so I'm at a loss to what's wrong.

Anyone had similar problems?

EDIT

I'm just in the process of verifying the game cache, no idea if that'll work.

Ah, it said 24 files failed to validate so I'm guessing that's the problem!

delete client registry.blob that usually works

What would that do?

Steam has said there are invalid game files and will download, but nothing seems to be happening, i.e. it's not started to download anything yet.

I cant exactly tell you what it does but is does solve a lot of problems.

When you do this ONLY do it when logged out don't for god sake do it when logged in. Once deleted re log in and steam will update after that all should be well.

Thanks

I ran the file check again and this time Steam replaced the dodgy files.
