Please help us.
My daughter just got fallout NV for pc.
She can't install it from disc.WTF

Now she is mad.

Please help us install from disc without a 5 hour download, when i got a disc with 6 plus gig of the game on it.WTF.

I've gone to the tech support on the disc,, no help.

Please help my 13 year old daughter play this game today instead of tommorrow.

I have to use steam for eve, so she has had it till im finished on eve.

Can we make another account from the same address, with a different email, so she can download while im still on my account?

From https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5357-FSQM-0382

1. Log in to Steam and click on Library.
2. Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
3. Insert the first disc into your computer.
4. Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
5. Press Windows Key + R to open Run
6. In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
7. Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

------------------

Remember that Steam games are locked to an account and once installed to an account they won't install to a different one.

Ok, some games will install from disc as above, but not all.

What will sometimes *sometimes* work though as another method, is install the game as per usual from the disc. Start the download on Steam and instantly pause it once it starts.

This should make a folder in the steamapps/common or something similar on your computer. Copy the files you've installed normally into the fallout folder thats just been made, and then go back to steam, go into fallout's properties and reverify the files.

You may find that'll get you at least 3/4 of the way through the download (remember Steam autopatches).

Simple reason you can't use the game disc to install is that Steam isn't designed for you to have one!

Just put the disk in and click install, what's the problem?

You literally have about 1 option on the installer and that says install, that's it.

Ravenger has it spot on, this is a bug that Valve really ought to sort out on disc based Steamworks games.

Just put the disk in and click install, what's the problem?

The problem is that sometimes that doesn't work and Steam starts a massive download and ignores the disc entirely. Ravengers post forces Steam to install from the disc should it decide not to on its own.

As for one of the OPs other questions - I can't see any reason why you can't make a second account for her, that way she can play when you are too. A bit late if you've already tied the CD key to your account though, as you can't use it elsewhere after that.

Put in the disk, browse to the disk, double click on the setup.exe or equivalent? I remember getting NV on disk and it was as simple as putting in the DVD.

Also, next time if it's her game, you should probably make a new account for her, because now she's using it on your account, meaning if you're playing Eve, she can never play New Vegas.

Ignore this advice.

Its balls.........from someone who knows no better

If you do this you then can't log into game, like this *************says so.

Hmm, nice attitude.

Don't bother helping him, he obviously doesn't want any.

Sometimes the method Ravenger outlined won't work.

If so, try this:

1) Turn your iron up to maximum (cotton) temperature

2) Iron the disc on both sides

3) Spread it with jam (marmalade might work)

4) Reinstall from disc

Hope it works for you.
