Evening all.

I thought I'd have a quick bash on counterstrike source this eve so I went looking for my half life 2 dvd to install it all but I can't find it anywhere :(

Is it possible to download a copy of halflife 2 and more importantly counter strike source through steam if I download steam from their website? (I have nothing installed atm). I still have my half life 2 cd key and I'm pretty sure I still have my steam login details etc.

Cheers.

Of course you can. It is the point of Steam after all :).

You will need the account details that you registered HL2 to, but apart from that, the Steam client is all you ever really need.

As long as you have your log-in details (and of course, HL2 is tied to that Steam account), you should be able to download it without any problems.

yup :)

Install steam and it'll let you download any games bought of it, or linked to your account :) (and HL2 is almost certainly linked to your steam account :)).

Woah, fast response!

Thanks a lot. I'm downloading steam now. Now I've got to try and remember all my logins!! It's been a couple of years!

Have you never used Steam at all while having it?

Assuming you installed it and connected it with your old steam account, it'll still be there. If you need a new 1, the key is probably useless.

If you've played it before on steam, it's on there.

Just login to steam and go to the my games tab. ANY games you've ever purchased on steam or as a hardcopy that install via steam will be there under uninstalled. Just double click and choose install and it will download and instal from the steam servers.

Well after a couple of attempts I've remembered my password!! It has indeed remembered my games and is now downloading counter strike as we speak. That was all rather impressive :)

What's steam like these days? Is there much content available on it? How does it handle it all? Last time I used it, it was pretty much HL2 and CS:S, but that was many moons ago!

Steam is possibly one of the best things in PC gaming these days, they have a sizable catalogue and continually run disgracefully cheap weekend deals (providing you're in a country where they don't rip you off i.e. anywhere that doesn't use Euro or the Australian dollar). Also, it has become a much better system than it was way back when it first came on the scene.

It's really good now, check out the store tab to see what they offer. I and probably most of this forums regulars have a large amount of steam games.

Prices can look a little high but the trick is to wait for weekend/holiday deals, I myself picked up Mirror's Edge for a few pounds a few weeks back.
