Has been like this for 3 hours, stuck at 89%.
I have closed it and restarted several times.
It has only recently started updating frequently after entering the screenshot steam beta, but today i just cannot get on steam, anyone else got the same problem or any ideas?

Sorry if its the wrong forum section.

Go into the steam folder and delete the "client registry blob" file. Then restart Steam that normally cures most start up issues.

indeed do that, if it still refuses look at your secuirty firewall...I had a issue with kerpersky and steam. also make sure windows isnt updating or installing windows live as i found out.

Thread revival.

I'm having this problem again after trying to install the Steam client. When it tries to update, it always seems to gets stuck on 46%. I've tried everything (deleting blob file, running as administrator etc).

I'm using HSDPA (3 mobile broadband). I believe that's part of the issue. The reason why I need Steam is that I'm planning on getting Football Manager 2012 and Steam is needed for that.

Bloody annoying!

Google reveals a ton of issues with Steam and HSDPA, and no fixes at the moment. You could try making a steam support ticket, but that won't guarantee anything.
