Steam Treasure Hunt

It would be cool to win all those games on Steam, but the odds aren't really in your favour and most people would have to buy a lot of games to even stand a chance - I have 115 games on Steam, so hope at least a few of those come up!

Hmm, well this basically looks like a very expensive lottery with little chance of winning, unless you happen to own a lot of games on there.

The TF2 hats are free ;)

Also, remember that they are reducing the prices of all the games linked to the achievements, so in many ways this is a great sale. 75% off chime, for example.

Valve are pretty smart at getting people to give them money for stuff they will probably never use more than once :D

Its now an "achievement" to buy a random bunch of games with a cheap lottery associated with it? Its smart but on the same sort of level as lotto draw junk mail. If they make money then good for them, it just seems a kinda low way to do it, like taking advantage of a gambler mentality like with TF2 keys

I'm not saying that applies to everyone who buys the games, but you can see the thinking behind it for Valve and I don't like it personally

Well you'd be doubling your chances of winning! (but only reducing your odds of winning by one)

How mad would it be to win 100 games on Steam

Also, woohoo! I have completed the "Setup an Avatar" bit :D

I just wonder what those 100 games are :p

And who exactly is any of this hurting? It encourages people to buy games that happen to be discounted for the purposes of it, but you also have to actually PLAY those games to get the objective and with a combined total of 24 objectives and you only requiring 10 for the main draw its not exactly difficult. If this was merely a sale with changing items every 2 days nobody would be complaining (except when it was never something they wanted). And if it taps into 'gambling addiction' then frankly people need to go to meetings...

Chime is quite simply a bargain for £1, ended up gifting it to a few friends because i thought they'd like it too.

183 Games on my steam account, so hopefully I wont end up buying too much :).

And complete all 28 objectives for the Hat of Undeniable Wealth and Respect! Your TF2 character will never have been so successful!

What is the point of this? Do valve really expect people to buy ~20 new games that they probably don't even want but to get a new hat? Either valve are completely off their rocker or there are some really sick tf2 degens out there

People may already have all the games? Anyway, they are just offering people a reward for buying and playing games. Each objective also offers entry into the prize draws.

Plus the games are all discounted by various ammounts. Its a genius move by Valve.

They are certainly aware people will purchase games purely to get a tf2 hat... the question is just to what lengths will people go. Besides, we've only seen the first day, no point jumping to conclusions. They've had 1 free objective, 2 indie game objectives and 1 expensive game objective.

Also, this does indeed look like the start of the Steam Christmas sale.

No one is making you buy the games. And at least the games which feature the achievements are cheap. And the achievements are easy to get!

Yup, this is basically the start of the sales. Wonder what the deals tomorrow will be. Hopefully I will have at least one of the games.

The real question is 'do you have to claim your 100 games straight away'??

If so -- horrible! Choose 100 games right now that you don't have on steam, that are available now.

By about #20 I'm completely stuck!
