In the last week or so there has been 3 attempts by different accounts to try to infect me with trading requests, but right away i knew something was up as i have traded many times with people i know and there is no need to post a link to a .jpg picture of the items they are wanting to trade, which will take you to an external link outside of steam to a image.scr file which is not a picture and dont be fooled by the preview image on it, dont download it even though its harmless unless you execute it.

I have been told of 2 people who i know have been infected and when i get to talk to them personally im going to give them a little dig for not knowing better.

Today's attempt, it seems like its a bot, i just watched it do its thing without even attempting to type back.

14:26 - taradino: sup bro, u here ?
14:26 - taradino: I interested trade with u
14:26 - taradino: possibly you may be interested my price: Edited out the link
14:26 - taradino: I do not know why you're afraid to follow links to the expansion JPG it's only a picture.
14:26 - taradino: If you do not mind trade, please contact me!
14:26 - taradino: be right back
14:40 - taradino is now Offline.

And the profile which is a amusing

When I got my knives, within 5minutes I had at least 2 bot requests.

They are programmed to auto-scan your inventory and compare the items to prices in market, if you have anything => $40 in your inventory, they will auto-friend you and send you fake links

Strange

Stolen account (5 years active) or some new 'hax' toy the children have got?

seen that date bug before on a few of my games, nothing 'abnormal' really.

i've had one of the people in my list send me a load of gumpf recently. i ignored it, then a few days later got the same link he sent previously but with a load of russian text. ignored, but got about 10 repeats of the same message. ended up removing him :p

A legit STEAM user who has been a member for several years, seemed like a kid, tried to phish me the other night by sending a "screenshot" link that autodwnloads a .scr file. I simply reporting attempted phishing to Valve and posted the chatlog/link to them too.

The guy had thousands of hours in some naff MMO game as well as 400 odd hours in TF2 (how he added me in the first place as we were on the same team and he was my medic for one round).

I don't even feel bad he's lost his account.

I had this from someone on my friends list, exact same text. I was afk so didn't click and when i came back he had typed a genuine message saying "don't click any links I have sent, Ive had to recover my account as it was hacked".

Play CSGO get a couple nice skins worth more then 15 bucks and get 2 or more friend request a day from scammers :D Id say i have to ignore 98% the the friendrequests i get

Maybe his account got stolen :/

There is that possibility but he seemed to play and interact perfectly normally, even in voice comms in game.

If it was a stolen account he'll get it back as valve will no doubt see this.

mrk I'm that down1oader/creomortis guy that added you, not a bot!

I've started getting random people add me on Steam of late, not huge numbers but they immediately start to want to 'trade'.... i.e. scam my account or steal from me.

*sigh*

Steam used to be about gaming. Thanks Valve, for sticking a monetary element into Steam and encouraging the scammers along. :(

I had some guys on my friends list spam me png links then soon after messaged me saying he was hacked. Looks like it takes over accoutns and spams friendlists? :p I obviously didn't click the link but I would expect to see this happening a few more times in the not so distant future.

I had that yesterday.

Noticed the .scr and told him to do one.

Oddly, they had over 100 hours gameplay for a game, not that it would be difficult to artificially inflate this to make profile look more "legit".

Of course, the account could likely be stolen.

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK

roygst: sup bro, u here ?
roygst: I interested trade with u
DO NOT CLICK THE LINK - roygst: possibly you may be interested my price: DO NOT CLICK THE LINK - link removed - DO NOT CLICK THE LINK
roygst: If you do not mind trade, please write me!
roygst: be right back
There was another user using the same message who was using upic.su to link their wares.

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.

I know it could be abused, but Steam needs a "report user" function.

Edit, there is:
