Steam Virus

Why post a live link in the first place?

Some around here may have an interest in reverse engineering to break down what it does.

I thought we were all grownups who can make our own mind up if we want to click a live link or not?

The warning is there for everyone else :p

Personally I would remove the link.

Someone could easily click on it in a moment of stupidity, particularly on such a friendly and trusted forums like this.

Sorry to say, if they still click even with the warnings, they should not really be on the internet.

Whatever happened to people taking responsibility for their own actions/choices?

geez just google "Steambot" and check out the responses you get.

The Bot runs in a terminal window and is very light weight, and does not require steam or tf2 running. You could potentially run many bots on one computer easily with this. Made with mono in C# and uses SteamRE to login to steam.

no doubt about it they exist. Steam need to do something about them.

I would remove the link just seems dumb to post it...

I've removed the link. I'm sorry but we have many guests visit this forum and someone could click on it and OcUK could be liable, it's not a risk worth taking.

I'm still receiving these from random friend requests and legit Friends.

I've decided to make my profile fully private so at least they cant get on to my friends list and maybe it will help slow the spread of it...

The hacked accounts need to be fixed by Steam by improving encryption. But the fact that the user gives you a virus by clicking on an external link is something that's never going to go away. It doesn't take long to create ghost accounts, and fake friends that get into long conversations, then the wildfire begins.

i hate to admit it but i got stung by one of these trade scams a few weeks ago , lost my field tested awp assimov among other things.

contacted support no response in over a week, oh well ya live and learn i spose lol
