£2.99 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/12900/

A mediocre deal by Steam this weekend so as not to draw too much attention away from the week long Left4Dead deal @ £12.49 http://store.steampowered.com/app/500

Got it the last time it was really cheap, played it about 5 times, couldn't for the life of me understand what the attraction was.

Great game, one that I come back to every now and again when I have new stuff in my music collection. Even works very well on ambient and chillout stuff.

same here

i kind of understood what they were trying to do

but it was difficult to grasp

it must have just been my taste in music :p

I have to agree, it's slightly more interesting than a media player visualisation but that's about it. If you're looking for a rhythm game then you'd play guitar hero/rock band/frequency or any of those, this is just crap in comparison.

Except with Rock Band and Guitar Hero you're limited to the (rubbish) music they provide, whereas with Audiosurf the possibilities are essentially limitless. They're very different games anyway, I hate Guitar Hero et al and yet really like Audiosurf.

Yeah, disappointing. Meh.

Personally I don't have it, I tried the demo and wondered what the hype was about. I wouldn't have it given.

Yet Guitar Hero is specifically designed for those tracks, therefore it is interesting and a challenge to play. Audiosurf is randomly generated so it is repetitive and a lot of tracks will be very dull.

So basically this is Guitar Hero concept where you can play with your own tunes?

If you are looking for that you will find it dull. The only thing I can imagine this being useful for is having something to do if you find just listening to music boring. You could create the same effect as Audiosurf by fullscreening a media player visualisation and randomly tapping on the arrow keys during the song/shaking your mouse around.

It's not random at all, the track it creates is based directly from the song you give it, and in my experience the results it gives are very good. I suppose it does depend on what sort of music you give it to an extent, but everything I've ever tried with it has worked brilliantly. With Guitar Hero, you're too busy concentrating on getting everything right to actually pay attention to the song.

I wouldn't say it's a terrible game, and it's fun finding which songs give you good levels (Bush - My Engine is With You is ace, btw), but I found the harder difficulties rather confusing, and slightly pointless, like they'd been added on for the sake of fleshing out the game. I'd class it as a pretty average game all told, but actual average, rather than review world "THIS GAME ITS TERRIBLE, 7/10."
