I've just bought a copy of HL2 (about time etc :p ), and installed. Now i used the serial number which is on a sticker inside the box, saying half life 2. If i check my installed games in Steam, it shows that I've got CS:Source, HL2, HL2:Deathmatch, HL2:Lost Coast. However, Halflife:Source has the status of 'Pre-load complete'.
Now I've just noticed that what I've bought is actually the game of the year edition (Bargain at £7.49!) - do I need to use the serial number on the little card insert, which i guess would let me play Halflife? Does anyone know if registering 2 versions of the same thing might cause any problems?
Cheers for any thoughts :)

As I've never actually used an out of the box GOTY edition, I'd have presumed that Half-Life: Source would have come with the single CD-Key you used, but I guess it may not afterall. If you're definately sure that you can not open Half-Life: Source at all, then I guess you should try the other CD-Key. Does it ask you to buy Half-Life: Source if you try to play it? If you browse Half-Life: Source in the Steam Store, does it say that it's in the account?

What does the serial number on the card insert say? Anything? Worth giving it a go anyway, if

Thanks guys, the only reason i didnt just try the 2nd key is that i was slightly worried i would end up with 2 copies of CS etc on my list, and that it might mess things up. Ill give it a go, once i've played HL2 :-)
