Steam Won't Install

Well that's your first mistake :p

I've learn't the hard way that having no backup is a bad, bad idea :*(

I can't afford to back it up though. I don't have a choice.

I do have about 300GB spare on my other computer, but the only way I have of transferring the data would be through a 1GB USB stick so it would take an age. I have about 200GB of stuff I'd have to transfer.

I went into regedit on the cmd prompt, and searched for "steam" it found loads, started deleting them, but It's going to take ages, it's just silly. Plus I'm scared of deleting something important.

Tried google and came up with nothing helpful.

Does your o/s install anything atm?

Just thinking last time I saw a problem like this there was a damaged memory stick causing the problems.

The error message is kind of a "red herring" as it were.

Can't you transfer using a home network or with a crossover cable?

are they not connected to each other via a router? use network transfer... it's about 10-12mb/s, not too shoddy if you set and forget it

edit.. ah..

i'd consider maybe getting a new hard drive..

a - better performance
b - can use the old one as a backup drive

In what way would a new drive give better performance? Just wondering as it's a non issue anyway because I simple don't have the money to spare.
