Steam won't open

When I try to open steam on my pc I get some stupid error message along the lines of

Steam.exe (main exception): CMultiFieldBlob)pSerialized): Bad field - extends past end of blob

anyone far more knowledgable know what this may mean and what to do to correct it?

Delete clientregistry.blob in your Steam folder.
