steam's crazy euro pricing

Us gamers in England have only just started NOT being ripped of by Steam. Steam was in dollars barely a month ago and we were having to pay a fortune what with the way the exchange rate worked out.

Indeed, even now the prices aren't exactly amazing, but they're certainly more realistic than before.

Retailers here are only a bit cheaper but yeah I only buy from steam if it's cheaper than in shop. I really want to buy from this UK competitor with free delivery, compared to that it's like half price games. Problem is I ain't got a ****ing Credit card as I'm not 18, luckily 3 more months and I can get a Visa or Mastercard and stop being ripped off, but it's always been annoying...

I'm pretty sure I know which store you mean (Probably the one big one that's always boasted free delivery) but I use my debit card on there. I've been using my debit card on there since I was 16 maybe? And on Steam. Surely you have a Debit card at 17?

No non uk maestro's don't have some code on the back ( near signature strip) and when I try to leave it blanc it gives an error that I need to fill the code in... Yeah it's that retailer btw I want to buy from :).

geez, steam prices were kind of weird to me in the first place, paying in dollars, conversion fee's, then paying the vat aswell..

i havent bought a game off steam since they did the audiosurf deal.

Wonder what my accounts worth :D i'll go check...

You own 8 Steam Games worth ~ $64.94

how measly compared to you guys :D but yes i dont use steam much

I don't use them at all now sadly.

Bandwidth costs money but you save on distribution and packaging so in theory they should be able to match or better online games stores quite easily.

I can understand their EU/UK pricing as the VAT directive makes intra EU purchases quite messy. But it should be realistic.

Like I said though it's not only steam sony's PSN games are still the same platinum games sell for 30€ instead of 20 quid. and I'm sure Xbox are too.

Got a reply from the European Commission:

Valve3.jpg

So basically, they're saying Valve is doing nothing wrong ( just got up past 30 mins a bit trouble reading their reply atm w/o getting a headache)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :p

On a more serious note it isnt fair you get charged more for the same service but to be honest you can always buy online to save a few quid

Think most people wait for deals on steam unless they're too lazy to order elsewhere or go to the shops.

Convenience cost.

What's that got to do with Euro pricing ?

Everyone in Europe except the UK, even countries like Poland without the Europe, now have to pay in Euro's rather than dollars, this results in our prices being 20% (+-) more than in the UK in pounds... This is somewhat unfair for Europeans as you English can get the same for less... Guess I'm always going to ask someone from the UK to buy it for me though as a gift, because Valve doesn't do anything about that yet :).
