I think a lot of this is just PR, Steam were doing Nvidia GPU acceleration but it was glitchy, so obviously they're seeking help.

I hope AMD do the same so they can get hardware acceleration in.
 
that was fast, nvidia is having more and more trouble finding exclusive features for their Gforce.

Hardware acceleration wasn't an exclusive feature for Steam with Nvidia, nor was it ever meant to be. It's all down to ease of putting in the function and the help that comes from the vendors, which is why Intel's HW acceleration was there way way before.

I guess you've never actually used Steam Streaming?

nop, never did any kind of streaming, not online not to a tv not to shield tablet :D, but i though this was announced as being able to take advantage of the H264 thingy.
 
The OP's article was just PR BS.
Valve had Nvidia hardware acceleration working, but it was glitched. Nvidia have obviously lent their hand to Valve to make it work correctly.

AMD's hardware acceleration now works. But it's possibe that it's just Valve who has implemented it without AMD's help, or it's possible that AMD have helped.

That's the long and short of it.
 
My mate has been using an older Intel laptop(Core 2 based one with an Intel IGP) and a later APU based one for streaming and the latest updates seem to have made it work mostly fine on them. So I suspect even a one with a newer Intel IGP should probably work fine too and hopefully it will since Intel IGPs are more common in laptops.
