What are peoples overall opinions on Wired vs Wireless?

I want a comfortable lightweight gaming headset i can use on both my PC and Xbox One, i was looking at the Steelseries Arctis stuff, it seems the 7 is like £50 more than the Arctis 5 for pretty much just Wireless?

Has anyone used both and care to comment?

Any other decent alternatives? i see OCUK has an offer on the 7 at the mo bundling in a new mouse and mat which is somewhat swaying me towards them, but if anyone has any other Wireless options that are around the same price im open to suggestions.

Even for actual audio makers there are very few wireless headphones I would try for non-mobile/home use.

While for sound quality per price gaming branded Chinese trinkets are basically garbage.
With actual sound quality coming with what little is left from budget after PR BS and bling bling fashion junk.

Some Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro with binaural sound would shred typical closed design gaming trinkets to pieces in game immersion while also giving good fun bass.
And AKG K701 would be among the absolutely best cans for competitive gaming with bass neutral highly analytical sound and still step bigger soundstage.

If for some reason wanting headset (headphone with built in mic) Beyerdynamic MMX300/QPAD QH-1339 and some of those open design Sennheiser headsets (like Game One) are about only ones I would consider.
Though MMX300(/DT770) closed smaller soundstage would be likely inexcusable after collection of big soundstage headphones with DT990 doing as well in "fun factor".
And AKGs then spoiling it for Sennheiser with their huge sounstage.
To use car analogy you wouldn't trade Jaguar/Rolls-Royce to some Lada/Trabant/Wartburg, or would you?

Xbone includes Windows Sonic for Headphones, so it can give some level binaural sound for any headphone.
Same for Windows 10...
Though what Youtube recordings I've found MS simply can't challenge binaural simulations of Creative.

I've got the Arctis 5 headset, picked them up from a well known PC store who's name rhymes with hurries. For £56 on black tag event with another 30% off they seemed good value, so might be worth waiting for post Christmas deals?

Anyway, onto the headset... they are wired, the wires are a little on the long side, but not much of an issue. They are super comfortable for gaming sessions and the 7.1DTS virtual surround works brilliantly for detecting where shots are coming from in FPS games.

The chap above posted pretty much the same thing verbatim when I was looking at headsets basically saying along the lines of they are all garbage. I don't use these for music or watching blu rays on, they are purely for gaming and in that regard, so far I've found them absolutely perfect. So there you have it, conflicting advice from an audiophile and a casual gamer. Main difference is I've actually used one of the headsets you're asking about in the capacity they will be used for. I cant comment on the technicalities of the headset in terms of sound frequencies etc, as it's over my head and I've no interest in it, but I have a set of Sennheiser cans for music and for gaming, they utterly suck with them being stereo. If someone is shooting at me and are either infront or behind, I can't tell which it is, with the Arctis 5's I can!

Oh, with regards to the ridiculous analogy of "To use car analogy you wouldn't trade Jaguar/Rolls-Royce to some Lada/Trabant/Wartburg, or would you?". Well, no, I wouldn't trade a jag or rolls for some eastern euro ****box, but at the same time, would you do the tip run in your Rolls, or would you take the Lada? Different usage criteria for both cars, so your analogy is void.

Perfect thanks for that, exactly what I was looking for, a user review.

Ordered the Arctis 5's as they can be had for £52 currently if you look around

Figured they were worth a punt for that price to use on my pc and Xbox.

Mainly play wow on pc so it's pretty much just voice Comms and on Xbox it's a few different titles but again mostly voice Comms so these should be perfect.

Thanks again :)

I ignored the other dude as I read pretty much the same rant in another thread lol

What this guys said.

We can't currently acquire stock of AKG and compete with ssome other retailers who are killing the price on it. Beyerdynamic we have in stock when we can get them and also audio technica and some decent Astro headsets too.

Our Steelseries Arctis all come with free mice and mouse mats so check those out before going for the cheapest price.

Although £52 is amazing! I think that particular retailer has struggled this Xmas and so you may see some amazing deals from them as they clear their overstocks/aged stocks.

As always if you guys see any headsets or any other products you want us to list, post them in the product suggestions section and we'll always enquire so you can acquire!
