Hi,

I have just built a brand new system and am using the Steelseries Sensei Pro mouse (along with the Apex M800 keyboard). After getting Windows up and running I decided to plug in the new keyboard and mouse. Both were working perfectly fine, so first I installed the Steelseries Engine v3 as that is the one used by the keyboard, installed ok with no issues. I then had to also install v2 of the Engine as this is the one used by the Sensei mouse.

So after installing the Engine v2, it has basically killed my mouse stone dead after it attempted to update the firmware on there. This seems like a common issue with this mouse after looking up the issue online, I've tried all manner of fixes suggested around the web, both on the Steelseries site and other forums etc. but I cannot get the mouse working again at all.

I've tried removing all drivers under device management, exiting the Engine software, downloaded different versions of the firmware for the mouse and they always just show a 'Cannot open bootloader device' error when the update reaches 41%. This even happens when the mouse is not plugged into the system.

The thing is, when the system is booting up the mouse LED flashes blue and on the LCD screen on the bottom of the mouse it says 'Upgrading v1.13' but as soon as Windows starts to load up the mouse just reverts back to it's completely dead state. If I go into the BIOS screen it will let me use the mouse there and it does actually work.

As a last resort I completely re-installed Windows again from fresh but this time round the mouse just hasn't worked from the start, could it be that the attempted update of the firmware has bricked the mouse itself or something?

Anyone else ever had this issue using the Sensei mouse? If so, any idea how to fix it?

Thanks

did you try the suggestion on the steel series website?
My Sensei locked up during the firmware upgrade; how can I fix it?

1. Refer to the picture in the link below and make sure that you are not plugged in to any of these places. The USB 3.0 port is OK to use but try using both a 3.0 port and 2.0 port. Since 3.0 provides more power, it may be the better alternative.

2. Make sure that your USB devices are set to be powered up at all times and that any power saving features are turned off.
Please refer to this thread for further information (steps 1 & 2 apply for all Windows OS, step 3 is ONLY for windows 7 users):

3. If you have the SteelSeries Engine running, kill the process by right clicking on the SteelSeries icon in the System Tray (the bottom right corner). Then select "Exit" and "OK".

4. Retry the firmware update. If you have the SteelSeries Engine installed, you can find the Firmware Update Tool in Programs -> SteelSeries -> SteelSeries Engine -> SteelSeries Firmware Update Tool. Choose to run as administrator if possible.
