Steering/Tyre problem?

Hey guys,

Having a weird issue that has only started since the really cold weather has kicked in, may not be related but worth mentioning.

Basically, if I'm turning right at full steering lock or at least a lot of turning of the wheel to the right, then I get a kind of bumping/crunching sensation through the tyres. Only way to properly describe it would be to say it feels like I'm going over a number of those speed trap wires in quick succession.

I really noticed it yesterday when parking in a the multi-story carpark. Going all the way to the top level meant a lot of tight turning right and it would happen nearly every time. But it's mainly if I'm pulling out of a tight junction or something like that, it may happen when turning left too but I've not hit a corner/junction that has caused it yet. I thought at first it was only when the car was cold, but yesterday the car had been driven up the motorway for about 45 minutes before I got to the multi-story.

Any idea what this might be? I'm going to take it in when I can but if it's something that's going to be doing more damage by continuing to drive it, then I'll try get it there sooner rather than later.

Thanks

Sounds like the CV joint is on the way out, though I have had a similar noise from a failed front wheel bearing as well. I would get it fixed sooner than later - it would be an MOT failure.

Ok thanks, I'll get it booked in tomorrow.

Out of curiosity, would that be something that would be covered under warranty? Seems weird something like that would go on a year old car

Sounds to me like it could be a seized strut top mount bearing. It causes the coil spring to 'twang' as you steer as the bearing twists the spring untill it eventually moves.

Yeah tyres are at the correct pressures all round. I had a quick feel round the tread to make sure nothing was stuck in it and couldn't feel anything, but will have a good look tomorrow

That would make a lot of sense as sometimes it only does it once even if I'm turning for a long time, then other times it's 3-4 times
