Hi, I've recently enjoyed playing a few racing games and thought it would probably be way better using a steering wheel rather than mouse and keyboard. I play a bit of Grid 2 at the moment but it's a bit arcadey and I think I'll buy Assetto Corsa and/or Project Cars soon.

What kind of steering wheel should I get as a beginner (nothing too expensive/complicated)? I had one of these 2 in mind:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Italia (Xbox 360/PC) (4460094) £54.95
1 x Speedlink Drift O.Z. Racing Wheel - Black/Orange £44.99
Total : £112.24 (includes shipping : £10.25).

Specs are in my sig, and I run Windows 8.1 (Pro) if that helps.

Cheers :)

A 2nd hand Driving Force GT. They normally go for around £60.

You'll want the larger degrees of rotation for certain cars to get the most fun out of them.

I had a similar Thrustmaster F430 wheel which was also limited to 270 degrees as a stopgap for a few months, and it got annoying very quickly in driving sims.

if thats your budget i would stay with the Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Italia better make . at least its got the clamping system and you can use it on a xbox as well. the speedlink as suction pads as these will slide about like anything

I can stretch my budget to a bit over £100 I guess.

Driving Force GT seems pretty good from what I'm reading online, could be a good one to go for. Cheers :)

The only thing that lets the DFGT down a bit are the pedals.

You can improve the feel by using a bit of foam, or a soft ball, stuck under the back of the break pedal.

This gives it a bit more resistance & a better feel.

Here's a good Youtube vid to watch on it :

I'm using a 2nd hand Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Italia on 8.1, works well for autosport gird. few other games I had to do the steering config manually. I would have thought Xbox controllers would have had more support than it has. but I paid so little for it I cannot really complain!
