Steering Wheel off Centre when driving Straight

What had you hit for the alignment to be out in the first place.
Genuine question. An ex KwikFit manager told me tracking doesn't just go out.. Theres a lock nut stopping the trackrod from moving.

That's not always the case. Parts can be warn, Or changed and it will be off

But surely you'd change the worn parts. If something is worn. Trying to counteract that by adjusting the tracking will only work until the car is moved an inch. Then it'll be out again.
You can't fix a worn suspension bush by adjusting the tracking.

Also the OP didn't say he'd had anything changed.

Your missing my point. You can change parts and then it will be off. No one would do the fricking to 'fix' a part

Seems you also missed my point.
I asked the OP what he hit as Tracking just doesn't go out.

Which you confirmed and then tried to argue about it
Then you said about worn parts....

Have you had wake and bake? Hahaha mad guy you.

All I'm saying is he might not of hit anything. What you take from that is up to you.

If he hasn't hit anything, Nor had any parts changed. Then why would he need the tracking doing. On its own, With no other work
I see youve also been taken in by the KwikFit brainwashing.

If you read what you quoted. You 'might' understand.

It could be because of worn parts.....

And thats the problem with falling for the Tracking scam.
Fast fit centres have you believe it'll fix worn parts.
Running a fleet of over 50 vehicles, having an understanding of how garages rip you off is not an issue I have.

No they don't. Hahaha

Why would any garage say the tracking will fix worn parts hahahaha

Probably for the same reason you have!!
I asked the OP what he hit. Because tracking doens't just go out.
You said it could be down to worn parts.
Why would you adjust the tracking. And again. Only the tracking if ANY parts were worn and not replaced.

From the OP it reads like hes gone into ATS for tracking.. No other work. Just tracking.
Youve stated that tracking may need doing because of worn parts....
Hows that going to fix those worn parts?

How would the garage know if a ball joint is won unless they test drove it or was told about it?

So maybe OP just asked for the tracking to be done. And that's what he got

Normally you stick a pry bar in and give it a wiggle and check for play.
Afterall they are the "pro's" and should know what to look for.
How would 80 year old Doris know she has a worn Ball joint.
Tracking is something the fast fit centre staff get paid bonuses to push onto customers.

yep agree
9 out of 10 folk get there tyres done and 'yes we will check your tracking for free' 'oh needs adjusting due to new tyres that will be' :) called up selling . if the tracking is out its something worn , so should be checked and worn part changed . then re tracked. could be a pothole or even mounting a kerb caused the problem but something will need changing.
otherwise they adjust your track and 5 minutes later driving down the road it still wrong.

earlier on in the thread someone said just go to another garage cause the steering wheel wasnt centred when they adjusted it....... sorry dont know if you covered it but.. why another garage? makes my blood boil that if the garage cant do the job correctly go back and complain , dont just suck it up . if everyone did that they will just keep doing a ++++ job.

number of time when i was in the trade we put other folks jobs right, ok we charged for it but a few bad apples made the public skeptical about all of us ...grrrrrrrrr
rant mode off normal service can resume.

The reason I had tracking done is because I had two new tyres fitted and all 4 wheels balanced, and it had been 50,000 miles since i got new tyres.

My mechanic told me to get the tracking done and I has read that you should get the wheel alignment checked.

Whether thats right I dont know.

I'm not sure whether I am over analysing the tracking anyway. Like I say when driving most roads on the left hand side slope to the left slightly and I am having to hold the wheel 5-10 degrees to the right but is that normal (to counter the slope)

If I drive on the middle of a clear road, which is more or less level it seems as though the steering wheel is straight.

That's good practice, and the best time to do it. I always get an alignment after fitting new rubber.

I doubt you're over analysing anything. Steering angle being off has such a noticeable impact from even the slightest margin.

Take it back and ask them to reallign it with the wheel straight. You won't be the first to have taken it back to them, I'd wager.

Edit: Was it the rears or the fronts you had changed?

The fronts.

You'll need to apply some pressure against the slope to keep the wheel more or less straight - but 5-10 degrees seems excessive. Unfortunately it is one I've had a bit of a battle with over the years as no one garage/mechanic wise seems to care that much and just write it off as "road camber". But the difference is very noticeable when you've driven a vehicle from new where it is perfect, etc.
