Step Brother is over, likes Warhammer, any Warhammer themed RTS games?

The first dawn of war games and expansions.

The 2nd one sucked imo.

Agreed. The first Dawn of War games and there related expansion packs. Hour's and hours of joy I've put into those games on Lan days.

*I remember at the time, they were fairly resource intensive. How much that applies now mind I dont know, but just bare it in mind.

Yes, second one sucked big hairy ones. Huge disappointment.

Also, for ~~RTS~~ FPS, Warhammer 40,00 Space Marine is actually a pretty good game! He'd undoubtedly enjoy that.

They are Warhammer 40k not Warhammer though.

Only Warhammer offerings are Shadow of The Horned Rat, Dark Omen (both pretty old now) and the most recent Mark of Chaos.

Yes thats them.

I'm pretty sure they are like the old sim games, you need the expansion packs installed in order. You cant just have the third one for instance.

Also, ensure if you get them, you download all the relevant patches.

Don't think so: they're standalone games when in boxed form (I picked a few up from car boot sales a couple of years back)

I know Dawn of War Dark Crusade could be played standalone.
The whole lot are frequently on steam sales, or cheap on reseller sites.

Dawn of War 2 is not as good but it's still a fantastic game! Looks really nice too, wouldn't trade depth for visuals but it slightly balances it out.

only get it through steam since sega took over the servers are steam only and you need a new key to get the game steamed for online play

Got a feeling my son happily plugged the existing paper keys into Steam and activated them just fine on there.

The original Dawn of War is the best imo, but you need to do a bit of tweaking to get a widescreen resolution:

Space Hulk if he fancies something that is true to the universe but is turn based.

Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon is also turn based but its more similar to the board game and has all most of the authentic units (the DOW series only scratches the surface).

I agree that the Dawn Of War series is a fantastic RTS.

DOW winter assault is not stand alone I believe. The rest are. If you want ALL races in multi player (likely not a consideration) you need all expansions.

There is also DOW Soulstorm.

All 5 games have excellent campaigns, start at the first game and move through the series.
