Here and There...
We’ve just bought a new house which is ‘a bit of a project’ and I’m going to be spending a lot of time up a step ladder filing and sanding Victorian coving. I have an ancient set of wooden steps that sadly started to fall apart tonight so I’m in the market for a new set, what would people recommend they need to be about 6ft talk to give me easy access!

I have a Werner stepladder and it's very good but I also have an extendable ladder that can become a work platform and depending on your ceiling height it can be more convenient because you don't have to relocate it as often.

Maybe have a look at a Zarges combination ladder. Then you've got something that can be used as a set of steps and also a straight ladder.

I've got one of these - and whilst a little on the bulky side, since buying it, it's had far more use than my set of step ladders

When used as a step ladder it's a lot more stable due to it's weight and stabiliser bars, and when used as a platform is a lot easier for painting and e.g. working on single story guttering etc.

I keep eyeing up something like this.

Actually I came across https://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/acatalog/Multi-Purpose-Ladders.html who sell different sizes of these to suit different purposes and some really useful accessories - I'm really tempted by the safety rail for the platform mode because I don't like heights.

If I was having to work on a fully extended ladder - e.g., top floor windows, I'd personally prefer a "normal" ladder, and one of these for work at lower heights though.

I have one of these. Perfect for painting ceilings and walls in A shape, workable platform for wallpapering and fully extended works as my loft ladder.

I've got a 4 step, 4 section combination ladder and apart from being a bit bulky it's been extremely handy, being able to use it as a platform is really useful and then to extend it fully to use as 1 big tall ladder has again been really good. Can be used on stairs nice as well.

I have 2 sets of Fibreglass Ladders, Werner and Lyte. Both are great ladders and are very stable. Whatever you buy, try and ensure that they meet EN131(which is the standard for portable steps and ladders).
