Greetings all,

Just purchased the E6600 Intel Duo Core 2 Processor (LGA775) along with all the other bits and pieces needed for a PC.

Im new to building a PC and I think I know what to do with building etc. Im just a tad fuzzy on installing a CPU, placing the thermal paste on and putting the Heatsink/fan ontop.

Can any of you geniuses enlighten me and pass me your knowledge :D

Thanks,

Marky

That's spooky lol :p

So am I right in this:

1. Yoink the latch of the CPU holder off
2. Slide the CPU in "with a vertical motion". (No force)
3. Lock the CPU in tight with the latch.
4. Place some thermal paste on in the middle (A pea size)
5. Slam the Heatsink/Fan on
6. Screw it all in and connect the fan.

Am I missing something?

Oh and another thing, I heard someone say either the CPU heatsink (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR)) or the CPU (Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)) may contain a thermal pad on it? Will I need to remove it? And how will I do that?

Another question, I don't need to clean the CPU or anything do I? Just rip it out the box and put it down on the holder?

well I wouldn't "yoink", "slam", or "rip" anything lol.

But basically yeah that's all you do. And yes it will most likely come with a thermal pad...use a lint free cloth and some rubbing alcohol to clean it off thoroughly.

no obviously :p

Is there any way to get the thermal pad off without the use of rubbing alcohol and lint free cloths? I have neither :(

lmfao

cpu wont contain any paste, the cooler most probably will...

you dont need nail polish remover or anything like that...just wipe it off with a tissue...works for me everytime...simple, cheap and does the same as all the other nonesense ppl say you **** do..

So you just grab (not literally but its feeling like a grab moment :D) the CPU, wipe the pad off with a tissue and throw the paste on? Oh and in one small blog in the middle?

Okey I got it :)
I'll just put the blob in the middle, put the hs on and wiggle a tiny bit and screw down.

Thanks for all the help guys and wish me luck for tommorow ^^
I'll be sure to post piccies ;)
