Steppings

Hi,

I will be purchasing an opty 170 very shortly....

How much attention do I need to pay to the stepping? Does this determine its overclock ability?

Any help and advice would be appreciated....

The stepping is the best guide to overclockability as it identifies chips that essentially all come from the same silicon so will all perform much the same.

If you search over at xtremesystems for what ever stepping you get it'll give you a good idea of what to expect (but everybodies idea of stability is different so beware!). If you're able to identify what stepping you're buying before you've bought it even better.

Im in the same situation and im thinking about a 4400+ x2, suppose the best way to get one is a second hand one to guarantee the steppings.

Also, another thing to note at xtremesystems, check what sort of cooling was used to achieve the clocks.

Hi,

I am looking at getting myself an opty 170....

Luckily I know the stepping "CCBWE 0609 FPAW" does anyone know how this overclock?

Any help would be great.....

P.S. Cant seem to get into extremesystems forum atm....
