Steps to new internet.

I'm sharing a 2meg line between 14 people in my residence at the minute, so i opted with a friend to get a new line installed, we can only get an ADSL service at our location, i have just ordered a new BT phone line to be installed (£124.99).

Q1) How will they arrange a time to install the line as i need to tell the landlord

Q2) I have opted to go with adsl24 as my isp, how long will it take to activate the line, and what will i need to get both our pc's fully connected (i've only done it with cable not adsl), do i need a ADSL modem and router, or just router or what?

1: They will probably phone or e-mail you stating a rough time of when an engineer will come round to install the second line.

2: Good choice in ISP. Should take a week to activate a new line for ADSL. You'll need an ADSL Router, something like the Netgear DG834G is a good choice.

also, is there anyway of giving us both 4meg, instead of 8meg between both of us, so instead of him downloading at 1mb/s and stealing my bandwidth, can i make it so half the bandwidth is given to each of us?

Not with most standard routers, however they usually do a good job of allocating bandwidth between requests. And it's usually unlikely that a download server you'll use will let you get anywhere near your max download speed, so it's usually find having two or three 200kbps downloads going at the same time.
