Recently got a sony mex-bt5000 cheap, mainly for the bluetooth streaming and mobile hands free function. But after swapping the headunits over im noticing some weird problems. I can no longer unlock the car using the remote fob (although i can if its less than about 5minutes). So i have to unlock with the key, open the door, alarm goes off, and then i can disable the alarm using the fob. The stereo and car digital display reset every time i turn the engine off also. Have been told i might need a phantom power adapter? Any ideas?

Phantom power is usually a 48v rail used for high end capacitor microphones, I've not come across them for in car use however but it sounds to me like something is not right.

What car do you have?

Car is a c2 vts, just done a little bit of reading and from what i can tell people are saying (info from this thread) i need a patch lead. Found this one on the bay (linky). Seems like that will also give me full control from my stalk controls too, as the stock HU is an RD3 :)

All sound good before i hit buy?

From what I could make out of that thread it does look like that ebay cable should work. If it doesn't the seller seems to offer refunds.

With any luck another C2 owner will chime in shortly and say weather or not that cable will do the business, as I'm not familiar with the C2's wiring... I have found that that French car electrics can have a mind of their own at times however! ;)

I would be surpised if that patch lead will cure your problems. Its purpose is just to bridge between the existing stalk control and the Sony HU. Currently the two arent connected. I would definitely be leaning towards the switched and permanent feeds being back to front in the first instance.
Did you buy a harness adapter to fit the stereo? If so which one?

EDIT : see below
