Stereo Mix - Win 10 - S/PDIF out

Not sure if this is possible, but how to record PC sounds (Stereo Mix) if also using digital output to external amp?
Using Windows 10 and onboard sound from ASUS Z170 Maximus VIII Hero.
Used to achieve this fine on Win 7 and a dedicated sound card.

I asked the same question on another forum and one of the answers was:

Windows 10 has a totally different audio subsystem that really only allows a single audio path at once.

Can anyone confirm this?
