I have a 99 VW Polo and removed the Sony cassette player the other day and installed my old JVC KD-S7R and that seemed to go fine however when I turned the car off and return to it my radio looses it's station presets. The Sony never did this and all the cables are connected to the JVC fine, any suggestions?

I have checked the manual and it doesn't say anything about losing presets :( Am I best just installing the Sony back in the car?

As you can see here, usually the red and yellow wires have little bullet connectors you can just swap over.

Check the wire's on the ISO with the wires from the diagram in the manual.

Sounds like the head unit is getting the power when the car is off, probs the wire GT3 suggested.

Yup, I had to do that, a few hours ago. - And it worked :D

Just swap (as been said) the red and yellow wires round using the Bullet Connectors :) (It should have them)

Right I've had the radio out and there are no red or yellow wires :(

All I seem to have is red, brown and blue wires.

or do I need to use an iso converter?

The reason I ask is because I don't have the yellow/red wires you describe, but the cable from the radio already fits and powers it.

IIRC certain VW's have use an extra live, I cant remember which one exactly or what models did have but I recently used a VW radio harness in my car and had to cut it out. I once used a VW radio in my old car when mine was stolen and had to wire an extra live in to get that working too.

Hmmm, i wouldnt mess with them, if you really need them storing, get an autoleads ISO adaptor,in your case it will just act as an extension lead, but will enable you to switch the wires around.

Thats exactly what I done, then its not really a problem if you do make a mistake.

Look on the back of the JVC unit, you have that red fuse, can it be set to another position, should be 3 pins to plug it into to switch the perm live around.

Firestar, that worked a treat :) I have the radio on all the time now even if the key is removed.

Just watch that its turned off when you shut the engine down, great way to flatten the battery otherwise, glad it worked though :)

I had the same issue with my JVC unit until firestar suggested the same thing which worked.

I've since bought a different head unit which I had to swap the red and yellow wires round to get it to store settings.

Thats still incorrectly wired then, you have a constant live plugged into the switched live.

Yep, but since its a fixed iso connector on the back of the unit you can't really do anything about it without an ISO adapter.
