Watching the Olympics yesterday it is quite amazing to spot how many iPads are being used to cover the event by journalists and the public alike. Those that deride the device as next to useless for it simplicity of design must surely see what the genius of Steve Jobs has done when bring it to the mass market. :D

I hardly use my iPad now I have an iPhone. Should sell it really. Was surprised to see so many iDevices used when on the Underground in London last week.

It is so bizzare, surely it would be easier to use their phone? It seems to normally be mums!

It might look silly but it makes sense for non techie types. Take a photo of your kid or whatever on your iPad and it's there ready to be shown to your friends without any transferring of files or synching.

Or maybe you just have a better camera on your iPad compared to your phone...

... Or if you a holding your iPad and then want to take a photo, are you really suggesting putting your iPad away and getting your phone out?

But why would you be holding your ipad in a crowd? Its a bit unwieldy to use with people jostling all around you. A phone would be much more convenient.

I noticed on holiday a lot of mums filming their kids or taking pictures with their ipad. A guy was taking pictures round the dinner table of his friends with one and smugly showing the pictures off. If it's the best camera they have I don't see the issue.

I don't see it as that different to people taking pictures with a smart phone, it not the best tool for the job either. I have used my ipad for photos when I've had nothing else to hand.

The problem is most people (including my mother who has one) think it's the best camera in the world because all photos taken with it look unbelievable on that Retina display.

Does it matter? I only care about the photo's and quality of my own. Just the same as loads of people take family moments to keep on point and shoot and couldn't care less about blurred shots or a bit of red eye.
.

Agreed its all about the tool at hand. Old quote but the best camera is the one you have on you.

Saying about the mums for example. Reading book by pool on holiday do iPad is there. Doubt they would put it down, grab another camera or phone then take a pic. Us as said above its already on the iPad ready to show others they want.

My 4S has become my point and shoot and have managed to get some pretty respectable shots with it (click link in my sig and check te instagram section of need be)

Only time I used my iPad camera was messing about in photo booth :p
