Stick with 7800X3d or go for 9900X?

It has been about 18 years since I bought my first PC from OCUK, that was rocking a duo core processor? and an 8800GT? or something, sacked it all off about 10 years ago. I'm back and am quite happy with this build below but before I order from the shop I could do with some advice on CPUs (I'm rusty).

I can't wait till any new X3D chips arrive and do not plan on upgrading again for at least 6/7-ish years, so is the 7800x3d going to be ok or should I go for a 9000-series Ryzen 9? Both are decent on paper from what I can see and I'm more concerned about longevity over value, if there is such a difference.

build so far: ***Link removed due to competitors***

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
Storage: Crucial T700 4 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
GPU: Asus TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB Video Card
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000e (2023) 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Just slapped this together mostly for compatibility, I'm not tied to any specific brands I'll just get what is cheaper on OCUK once I decide on CPU.

The 7800X3D seems to be slightly ahead still in gaming scenarios.

It’s also better value for money now as it can be had fairly cheap compared to the RRP of the new chips.

If it’s a gaming rig, go for the 7800X3D imo

I built around a 7800x3d last year after not having a pc since my core2duo and 8800gtx rig too

haha nice, and yea it is purely for gaming so shall probably go this route, can always throw a 10000 series in in six years

£500 for a pcie5 m2 is madness it will be no quicker in games.

drop that corsair nvme for this

WD Black SN850X 4TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS400T2X0E)

makes no difference as stated already, honestly you could use a normal sata ssd and it would not much of difference to gaming.
