Hi, I am currently using a AMD 5200+ on a MSI K9A2 CF which is AM3 ready. But i am looking to upgrade as i play games. Do you think now would be a good time to switch to C2Q or maybe the i7 becuase from what i have heard (dont know for sure) the new Phenoms II are not going to be that much of an improvment just looking for some advise Thanks.

As above wait around for Phenom II's, see what the prices are like and wait for some good, honest reviews. The 920 would be nice for a little under £200, would be a big upgrade from what you have now and would work out a lot cheaper than i7, less hassle than going 775 aswell. Apparently they are overcloking fantastically :p

Stick with AMD for now, especially as you say that your current motherboard is AM3 compatible. You'll get a much more cost effective performance increase sticking with AMD as all you'll have to change is your CPU.

Even though older AMD mobos (with AM2 sockets, for example) are compatible with AM3 CPUs, I believe the performance is not 100%. Good for a cheap upgrade, but it's worth getting a newer mobo with an AM3 socket when you've the money, to get the most out of your new CPU.

yes am2 boards are compatible with AM3 CPUs, but performance won't be 100%. but with the am2+ boards it should performance 100% because it has HT 3.0. the only different that i can see between the am3 vs am2+ is the memory
