Hey guys,

Have money to burn, plus can get a pretty good return on the 6400.

My 6400 is sitting at 3.35ghz at the moment, fsb of 420 1:1 with the mem.

This is sat in a p5w dh, with 4x1gb g-skill 6400hz's

Now i would really like to get back upto 4ghz, would it be worth my time getting a 6600. and hope it clocks better than the 6400?

What do you think?

Cheers

I would keep trying to get to 4ghz with the 6400 and wait to see what happens with the kentsfield. You setup is plenty fast as it is. Want to really play around get get celeron 326 and try get that to 5ghz ! Cheap cpu to destroy :D

lol,

i wouldnt want to destroy the mobo though,

problem i have at the moment is i appear to have hit a brick wall at 420mhz on the fsb, it will not post 1mhz above that.

also mem dividers dont work at anything other than 1:1 which is annoying

4Ghz on air? :p

people (down here) just barely manage that on feon and water.

Point is it can be done unless your ambient is really high.

"I have a 6300 that will do nearly 3.6 which was about 515 FSB on my DS4. It was just a case of MCH at 1.65 and memory at 1:1 and set the FSB to 500. All from the Bios."

At 500fsb on a 6400 that's 4GHz, but mabye he's just lucky :p

ok sounds like i will be sticking to what i have at the moment,

cheers for the info guys, gonna try some 40mm fans on the chipsets and see if that improves anything.

More than likely my raid could be holding things back also.

Cheers

The FSB is holding you back on the motherboard, unlikely the chip is stopping at 420FSB, people are getting these up to 550FSB on other motherboards.

p5b deluxe rev2 or rev 1 if you cant get the former

im sure your familiar with the asus bios / layout by now ;)

what raid problems are you having?

I hate the bios layout on the DH delux, and memory inparticular

(still think my gskill is acting funny as its "default" is 5300 even though its 6400 ram - but not sure if its the bios being horrendous version 701, or the ram)

but to OP I would stick with your CPU and change mobo - I am keeping an eye on new Abit one released very recently which might be good, even though physical layout isnt meant to be great

Personally need crossfire compatability so am pretty limited at the moment

Are you using the 1401 (beta) BIOS? It allows for overclocking up to 550fsb.

not sure. I can only comment for my processor.

Best for it so far is the p5b deluxe.

(ive seen it perform with the whole core 2 duo range though)

but it has its flaws :o

mainly #
only 1 x 16x pci-express slot
multiplier is limited
double reeboot issue
