Stick with Sky or Check out Alternatives?

We have Sky (not Q) and it's something I really enjoy - I like the ease of use, the picture quality (1080i), the planner/guide/DVR/boxsets etc. however Sky costs us around £75 per month (includes discounts, 40mbit unlimited fibre, phone, HD, Formula1 HD, entertainment package NO MOVIES/MULTIROOM/SPORTS which is fine)

We are early preggers and my wife would like to drop Sky when discounts end February 2019 and go to the cheaper alternatives like Netflix etc. to save some money for when baby arrives

Now I'm happy with Sky and I don't think the alternatives can match it for far cheaper and I honestly cba with the faff of setting a new system all up/universal remote etc.

Are the alternatives any good and what should I be looking for please? I'm not current with what the best alternatives are, are they worth it or suck it up, explain to the wife and stick with Sky?

It's becoming a point of stress and anxiety for me - first world problems I know.

Still have my trusty 10 year old 42 inch Panasonic Plasma (th-42pz80) 1080p non smart - have a PS4 though could I use that?

We tend to watch series and me war documentaries, reality shows like police custody, 24 hours in a&e etc

I appreciate all your input guys - I hadn't thought of a BT TV box and I'll look into this too

Just thinking - I don't suppose there are any Sky Q (and are the boxes very good?) deals that would be cheaper than I'm paying now or is that a no go? Reason I ask is because it's so much easier to stay with Sky and now it also includes Netflix which the missus really wants - if I can swing it that Sky Q is a bit cheaper with possible discounts I may just be able to stay with Sky

Been doing further research on this as we are expecting our first child and need to cut back on luxuries as much as possible

Early February our sky tv contract expires and will shoot up to £46/month (currently £33 with discounts)
But I don't really want to lose sky (convenience, ease of use etc.) so as a compromise we are going to go with:
Freesat on Sky (free) with Sky+ features (£10/month)
and Netflix on the PS4 (£8/month)
= £18/month instead of £46 without discounts
Still keeping Sky Fiber and Phone

I'm bummed I will lose the 70+ Sky HD channels, free Sky F1 HD, Fox, Sky Atlantic, Discovery, History and boxsets but I think after looking at all the options and prices this seems to be the best compromise (unless I've really missed something then please let me know)

Have you spoken to Sky about any offers for when your contract ends? Paying them £10 a month just to record programmes seems insane to me, you could easily buy a barely-used BT TV YouView box for £50 and use that for recording Freeview channels.

Freesat rather than Freeview - Yeah it's not ideal but will see how it goes. If Netflix takes over it's easy to just cancel the Sky PVR functionality

Just an update - As I'm within the 30 days of my contract renewing I called Sky and cancelled the TV package and also got a new offer of half price broadband for 12 months

So now bill from sky = £29/month (plus any extra for calls) from £70

Will use 'Freesat from Sky' and a £8/month Netflix sub

Will keep my eye out if cancellations call me within the month for an offer on the Sky pvr functionality (extra £10/month)
