I've got a photograph, and a picture of a book. I want to make it look like the book is under her arm, and can't for the life of me remember how to do it. I vaguely remember some technique that involves layers and stuff, but if anyone could shed some light on it I'd appreciate it :).

place the book where you want to put it, then either erase the area of the book where the arm actually is, or apply a mask to the layer for the same effect.

add the book onto the person as a new layer
bit by bit, erase parts of the book where her arm is underneath
once that is done, it should look like the book is under the arm (as only the top and bottom is visible)

most simple way!

1.copy the book in (it'll automatically go onto a new layer)
2. resize and rotate book so it's at the right angle
3. layer, layer mask, hide all
4. still on the same layer select (using whichever tool you like) the guys arm
5. select the inverse (Ctr+Shift+I)
6. Change the colour of the now selected area to white (Ctrl+I).
7. Profit

:( beaten by miles - serves me right for making a list :(
