Hi,

I recently sold my old iphone to a friend when I got my 3g one, however today he has been getting a few sticky pixels on the screen, if you rub them they usually go away but 50% of the time they stay, they can be any colour, not just white etc.

Now, I only bought it back in April when they were selling them off cheaply so its within a 1 year warranty I believe.

Do you think they would replace the phone? The only slight problem may be that I did unlock and jailbreak it however when I sold my friend the phone I restored it with 2.2 and it was working with out issue, just wondering about when its unlocked if it changes the baseband etc etc.

Thanks for any feedback, nearest Apple store is Birmingham so a bit of a trek to find out. :)

no they wont find out. all you need to do is goto itune and press restore a original firmware. =) sorted as long cydia and installer isnt on it.

apple genius dont have special software beside normal itune.

I went to the Apple store in the Bullring on Saturday morning which I would recommend against as it was absolutely packed with xmas shoppers, luckily I live 30 seconds away from it so it wasn't too bad. Anyway, if you book a genius appointment you will have a reserved slot where someone will help you out. I took the headset for my 3G iPhone into them as the mic, button and right earphone had all packed up. They had a quick look, took down the serial number from the phone and replaced it on the spot which was great. The warranty covers the iPhone and all accesories in the box which I didn't know, they were really helpful. Also my phone was previously jailbroken, I just restored it to 2.2 before taking it to them but as metachi said they don't have any special tools, they just go into the general settings to get the serial number.

thanks forthe info :) when I speak to my friend we will work out a day we can take it there. I'm just wondering if they will replace a 2g iphone with another (possibly refurbed?) 2g iphone or would we get a 3g one. The phone is obviously not on contract but he is with o2.

Personally if the git gets a new 3g phone from this for the money he paid me he will be laughing :D (and I will be a bit narked as I could have got one :( )

Apple replace the phone 'no questions asked' for stuck / dead pixels.

You can also get them to swap the handset if you have dust under the glass touchscreen.

He wont get a 3G one. Most likely a refurb 2G (unless they have special reserve stocks or something). I've seen a few 2G iPhones come back to our shop from apple since the 3G has been out
sorry ;)

He definitely won't get a 3G took my 2G one in to get a replacement due to screen burn, dead pixels and clicky noise when touching screen and I got given a 2G one.
