Sticky Tape Residual

Hi Gents
Currently in the process of removing the personalised plate of my vehicle which has left some sticky residual tape, what is the best way to remove this that also won't damage the paint? I've read about Isopropyl alcohol is probably best?

A bit of petrol on a rag should work fine.

You need glue remover really, solvent isn't much good at removing glue tbh.

I've found oil (like sunflower oil) to be effective at loosening sticker residue when strong solvents did nothing.

Auto Finesse obliTARate or Goo Gone. I’ve used them many times for removing number plate residue and when I removed the sound deadening from my E46 M3.

Someone used a vinyl plate on a car I recently bought and peeling the plate off left the entire sticky back residue on the bumper. I used AF product to get that off, took a while though with the amount that was left on!

Tar and Glue remover is best. Always worked well for me when removing badges and the sticky stuff left behind.

xylene or acetone are the daddy's for sticky residue - had to buy xylene@screwfix for (original formula) hammerite thinning a couple of years back, just don't breathe in.

not sure what they replaced acetone in nail varnish remover or tippex thinner with, but they are no longer hardcore.

Bit of white spirit usually removes sticky goo from adhesive pads etc
