Stig on 5th Gear

That drag racer video makes me think he's about as charismatic as one of my ****es.

It just all sounds so false and put on compared to top gear where it is staged but comes across as good banter and has a laugh.

Well he's certainly rather boring. Some people really aren't made for presenting television, he's one of them.

"I spent too long trapped inside a Storm troopers outfit for my liking"

Utter dross, I almost felt bad for him when he opened his mouth. They have completely missed the point, nobody gives a stuff about Ben Collins. Much the same as nobody cared about Perry McCarthy. The whole point of the Stig was the mystery surrounding him. Anyone else notice the mechanic from the TopGear technology centre on the Fabia segment?

What a suprise. Why couldnt he see this coming?

Nobody cares about Ben Collins. He is a little known, barely succesful racing driver. He is not a television presenter. He has no television presenting credentials. All he can really do that interests the general public is drive cars well. He has no worthwhile persona for TV.

Therefore being The Stig was the perfect job for him, and now he isn't The Stig, he will fade into obscurity like Perry Mcarthy did.

What a fool. Why couldnt he see this coming?

Yep, thats one man who has shot himself in the foot. He was better off when people thought he was a successful racing driver in disguise.

Actually I don't think he's a fool after listening to him today. He wants a full time drive in BTCC next season and 'outing' himself might work hugely in his favour. He certainly wouldn't be on the BTCC grid today without doing that. Maybe he just wants to go racing?

if he sees it as a means to an end - and not some hugely inflated ego that he could do TV presenting as well as clarkson / may / hammond and begrudges being kept in the white suit (as it appears) then i have more sympathy for the guy.

No worse that some of the others to be fair, certainly no Clarkson though.

Have to disagree there.

While I'm not a massive fan of 5th Gear (Just watched the last episode and found it laughably crap, you can at least get a little bit of a feeling for the personalities of the other presents. However it is clear from that one feature that Mr. Collins has all of the personality of a International "watching paint dry" champion. I was actually impressed just how boring he made a machine that can run the 1/4 mile in 8 seconds seem.

The one and only vaguely interesting thing about his feature was watching the tyre "deform" on launch in super slow mo. That's right. I'd rather watch black circles spin than listen to Ben Collins.

I wanted to like the guy, really I did, but he just came across as a boring, slightly smarmy ****.
