Still getting poor fps in games with new card?

Im proberly going to have to test my card in my mates pc first just to make sure im not extremely unlucky with another bad card, im just temped to buy a phenom 2 set up in 3 or 4 weeks every graphics card ive had has never run well on my setup maybe its the motherboard i did have to rma because it had graphics corruption.

it should not drop to that mate not with my card, oblivion has no aa on or hdr or bloom and i get same fps on lowest res, that proves something is up.

I havent seemed to have any problems with the 4870X2 card I got mate. Everything seems be normal.
With a Core2Quad @ 3.6ghz and 4gig ram 800mhz.

Is the game playable? If so (which I strongly suspect) does it really matter about artificial fps? no

It does my my not getting the over 60 fps on older games it matters to me i pay for max peformance not as low as 38 fps on oblivion. Like i said i now suspect that something else is causing this problem maybe my motherboard or hdd.

I sold my 4870x2 to my mate because it was faulty he got warranty on it an i got 150 quid for it. I got 4890. Oblivion still has massive fps dips with everything maxed out, goes into the 45s a lot of the time in battles and such. call of duty waw maxed out also dips into the 50s when reviews i seen suggest it should stay above 60fps. This sucks. My harddrive is slower than my mates for some reason, my takes a while to load call of duty 5 were as my mates is in a few seconds and my hdd is bigger with more cache.

i get fps issues with oblivion also. think its just not very well optimised

I get the same issue in Oblivion too with 4890, fps is generally well above 60fps, but soon as I look in a certain direction it plummets below 40fps. This happens even when AA is off and all details reduced. In fact turning on 24x Edge Detect AA + Adaptive AA makes little difference to fps.

That said I have no other unusual issues in other games. Also bare in mind that even the best cards will drop under 60fps even in certain older games.

I can confirm that in my case ,my ATI 4850 (512mb) has an issue loading cod waw maps slowly , today i installed my sons 8800GT (512mb) , loaded the same map (airfield) with the same settings and the nvidia card loaded the map 7 seconds faster

infact ive been timing how long it takes to load maps for a few days while i sort out this "long load time" issue, usually starting a server and loading airfield map takes 30 seconds on my machine with win xp x64 and a 4850

ive done a lot of messing with the pc today and installed a copy of windows 7 ultimate and installed that 8800GT just to test this ATI "issue"

again loading the same map and the same settings took 17 seconds over all , so thats 13 seconds faster than my ATI card on win xp

it may not sound a lot but on the servers it makes a difference, i joined my TDM server and the map changed , usually im one of the last few to join, say about 20-25th on a 30 player server

today, just now infact i was THIRD on out of 30 !
