Still having 360 wireless trouble

Hi all,

Still can't get on Xbox Live via Wireless. I've had the Wireless Adaptor changed and it's still not working properly.

Basically, I'll look in the Dashboard at the connection status and it'll be..

Connected, Not Connected, Connected, Not Connected, over and over again. Stays connected for 1 second, then disconnected for one second, then again and again. When it's connected, it has 4 out of 5 bars of signal strength.

The Router is in line of site about 5 metres from the Xbox.

Any suggestions? I've wasted a month of Xbox Live free trial on this :(

Does Live! run fine with the cable going into the router instead of the wireless? This could rule out an incompatible router.

Are your Xbox360's settings set to Automatic or Manual, I did have a lot of bother after putting manual settings in.
Is there no way to look at connected devices on the router through the router dashboard?
Is your router updated to the newest firmware.
Is your router supported by Xbox Live?

Sorry for all the questions, I wasn't around last time you posted regarding online issues.

Is it a UPnP router??, i found with my old router altho not wireless kept dropping the connection every few mins. Had to shell out for a new one which works prefectly fine.

Are you using WPA by any chance?

I had a similar problem with my PDA and a few other devices where it would connect then disconnect repeatedly. My router was set to WPA + WPA2 multimode but some devices can only use WPA and not WPA2.

I had to force my router to only use WPA and then all of the devices that had this problem connected fine. This is just a wild guess I don't own a 360 but the problem seems similar :(

Try these. I've a Speedtouch 585 with 360 Wireless adapter.

Set the IP address to a static one.

Manually enter the DNS servers.

Dont use encryption to begin with.

Make sure Upnp is enabled on the router.

Have you another u could try ? - Possible faulty adapter ??

Off topic.

Omg fox plays game? Ok you are back on the cool wall section now. ;) But you will move to the sub-zero section once you buy a ps3.

I wouldn't rule out a security issue either - I would set the router to unsecured and then try it to see if it is causing a problem. But, as others have said, I would also recommend using manual settings - I've had problems with auto settings in the past.

What frequency channel are you running your router on? I had this problem last week when Linksys sent me my new router and it was because I was running the wireless G frequency on channel 11 (2.4... something, I can't remember?) I changed it to channel 6 and I've not had any trouble with it since. Maybe channel 11 was interfering with other appliances? I'm not really that clued up on wireless TBH.
Previously I had the WRT55AG Dual Band A&G and I always ran my 360 on the wireless A frequency so I never really had to mess about with channel frequencies and what not.

Could it be the wireless security settings causing you the problems? It took a 'back to factory defaults' hard reset of my Router to point me in the right direction.

My own problem was being unable to get past the IP address stage of the network test. I had a good signal (4 Bars) but it just wouldn't stay connected, if at all...

It took the best part of 2 days 'troubleshooting' to come to the conclusion that it was my antiquated WEP security settings causing the problem, and not some half-assed IP address issue.

As soon as I set everything to WPA, it all immediately went green and has stay connected ever since.

So glad you approve  I thought he always had a 360
Not really sure what the problem is? A little joke by ElRazur towards Fox, obviously motor/Top Gear related and as you are an active member in motors so the link should be pretty obvious. And Fox is by no means an active poster in console gaming, the only other time I noticed his posting was the last time he was having wireless problems.

Im hardly ElRazurs biggest fan (NOI ;)) but picking faults with any post is pretty pointless.

not to get caught up in this but fox is pretty active in games, I think most ppl would say he has a certain opinion on frame rate at the very least. :p

As for your problems, have you tried switching wireless channel ?

Hi guys,

Router has no security on it, although it is using DHCP. I'll try manually entering details.

I've had a 360 for just a month but I've been a PC Gamer for many, many years :)

Try turning off the hardware firewall on the router. Had the same issue with a wired connection and the BT Home Hub. When I turned off the built in hub firewall it worked perfectly.
