I got a Sapphire 4850 in July and once I did the old config fix changing the fan speed and that it would idle at about 45C and would barely reach 80C when playing a game on full settings.

Anyway I've not played games for a bit and so after my last format I just installed the latest drivers and never played with configs. But today I loaded up COD4 and remembered about the fix, so I did but it was still nearly reaching 90C with the fan at 65%! Even with 8.12 using the manual fan slider I get no luck and it's idle temp is 70C with the fan at 50%!

My CPU temp is 23C and the System temp overall is 27-30C so why they hell is the GFX card so hot!? Is it Donald Ducked?

Any help appreciated!

This might be a silly question, but have you check the heatsink for dust? Or it might not be seated correctly. If all else fails, there's always liquid nitrogen. :p

Yea, I spent an hour today cleaning the whole inside cause it was a state and I just checked it was seated right after someone else suggested it and its fine.

You may have knocked the heatsink slightly which could have disturbed it making an uneven mount. Consider remounting the heatsink with a fresh layer of paste.

I meant the graphics card heatsink m8, the thing with the sticker on. You said you cleaned the inside so it might be a possibility.

It's all enclosed in a plastic cover, but that made me think about the heatsink cause my cpu one was clogged up like hell so I just took the card out and looked underneath it and as suspected it was all clogged up, cleaned it out, put it back in and I'm now idling at 45C with the fan on 40%.

Happy days.

Not sure if this will intrest you but i recently went from this:
