Currently using a GTX 1660 super and looking for an upgrade. I've been looking at the RTX 4070 TI Super and while browsing came across a RX7900-XTX which I could get at £650 with some discounts I have available the 4070 TI Super would be more around 690 700 mark. Only thing throwing me off as I've never bought an AMD GPU before and not familiar with the brand powercolor similar with Nvidia cards now I always see Zotac and PNY cheaper than the brand names I recognise. I may wait a little longer to see if prices change when the new cards get announced. Any imput would be appreciated

Ryzen 5900X
MSI X570 Tomahawk
Crucial Ballistix 32gb
Corsair RM850

nice jump from a 1660s to a 7900xtx, the difference is going to be night and day

run ddu before installing the amd drivers
contrary to popular belief, the amd drivers are fine (as someone who owns both a 4070 and a 7900xt)

Powercolor are fine, the 7900XTX is in another league to the 4070ti Super.

There are new Nvidia cards launching next month, but they'll probably be ridiculously priced and like hens teeth.

what is ddu?

quoted for emphasis:
Recommended usage

You MUST disconnect your internet or completely block Windows Update when running DDU until you have re-installed your new drivers.
DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling/installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
DDU will not work on network drive. Please install in a local drive (C:, D: or else).
The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

I have never had any issue related to graphics card brands personally.
A 7900XTX is a better card on average than a 4070Ti Super.

In my opinion the decision is more 7900XTX vs Jan/Feb Nvidia 50 series offerings.

though that might be the release date, but i won't be surprised at the etailer gouge/supply issues to continue until mid/late 2Q25...i wouldn't expect to get one at sensible prices until then (unless you win the day 1 lottery)
I think you are correct, however the used 4080/7900XTX prices should nosedive accordingly :).

Leaning more towards the 7900xtx right now, especially with the price. My 1660super gets so noisy and hot now anytime I boot up a decent game

Won't be disappointed it's a brilliant card. I have the 7900xtx and I was a little abrehensive as it was my first AMD card. It's been flawless, I really like the software and the performance is great at it runs really well as a 4k card.
