Ahoy there, its hard to find benchmarks that still use a 4870x2 compaired to a 7970 etc, how much more of a boost will a 7970 be over this 4870x2?

it's still a powerhouse this x2, and runs every game i want, but now iv got some spare cash laying around, would just love that extra performance and to be able to play some of the new games with more AA etc..

Thanks

The 7970 will drag it down an alley, punch it in the stomach and then proceed to beat it around the head with a baseball bat until its brains come out of its ears.

By this he means ; Generally about 50-60% faster :p

4870 x2 was like 350 quid in 08, 2012 and 430 quid for 50-60%? I wouldn't.

Of course, this is when the 4870x2 works as intended.

The main reason I upgraded when I did was because performance under anti-aliasing wasn't good enough. Otherwise, I might still be using it now; it seemed to have no trouble in maxing every other setting in all titles. Not as smooth as my single gpu card now though, which isn't surprising.

As mentioned, the 7970 will murder it.

Plus you can use much higher res, if not now in the future, 7970 can run most games at 2560x1440 everything maxed at 30-45fps, just as an example.

I'm currently running a 4870x2 and I'm looking to upgrade soon. I'm waiting for the new nVidia cards come out because a Kepler card is apparantly as good as 3x GTX580's in SLI and I don't just use it for gaming so CUDA will come in handy. Hopefully my 4870x2 will hold out until then because I've oven baked it 4 times due to overheating! I'm running on Catalyst 10.5 with the fan on 85%, which doesn't bother me as the tower is in another room because I work in the audio business. It has been a fantastic card and only Skyrim HD has brought an arrow in the knee! :o

Or if you want a cheaper good upgrade, grab a couple of HD6850's for £200.

Will be a huge boost over your 4870X2, use a ton less power, run cooler, quieter, and give you all the nice new bells n whistles (DX11 etc).

That's a 5870 vs CF 6850's, the 5870 is roughly equiv to the performance of the 4870X2. Just look at the fps comparisons, ignore all the power temp noise stuff.

You are looking at a 50%+ boost in everything, while spending considerably less than you would on a 7970.

Just something to consider. :)

Personally I wouldn't spend all that money on a card that is already out of date due to not having enough vram. Each to his own though.

Im waiting for the new nvidia cards before i upgrade my 4870x2 but either way it will either be a 7970 or whatever the nvidia cards are called.
