A few places i've been to recently have not given me the chip and pin machine but given me a pen, i though they did away with this from February or something

Is it still something you can request as i've just got a new card and no pin number for it

All that changed on the 14th of Feb was IIRC the liability for fraudulent transactions.
Retailers can still accept signatures, but they will be liable for any fraudulent use I beleive.

yep Feb 14th was the end date! I know of a Esso garage still taking sigs but thats about it, everywhere uses it now. Best thing I would do it wait. Or take it with you down to the bank and take some cold hard cash out :D

Bingo, we still get people to sign but are liable if the transactions go belly up.

nearly every bar and club i've been in still work completely on signatures. But then i just reckon that they think drunk people wouldn't be able to do their pins, so they'd lose money, whereas with signatures they accept anything as far as i can tell.

A while back (before the deadline) I had been out drinking in the afternoon and we went to a restaurant to eat afterwards.
Being a touch drunk I managed to completely forget my PIN - luckily the guy took pity on me and asked if I would prefer to sign just before I pressed enter on the third attempt and locked my card out.
