I dont wanna play high spec games on my new (first) build so am I best to go for a cheap conroe or for the equivalent money another CPU?

I'm only gonna use it for fm2006/internet/uni work. I want 2gb of ram as my main criteria.

can anyone help me? I have about £500 to spend. (not including monitor or windows software)

its hard to say really as for £500 you could get a good AMD or good Core2 so your in a right pickle.

If your not gonna be playing games then S939 would be a good route. Cheaper thean Core2 but at £500 not much difference tbh.

Am not sure what to suggest really. Core2 most likely tbh but S939 for cheap and cheerful

in a pickle? :( lol at least it's a good pickle to be in.

i'm tempted by a dual core P4  but am confused as to what is best for buck.

edit: specifically = Intel Pentium 4 820 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.8GHz (800FSB) - Retail (CP-102-IN)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Intel_Dual_Core.html

or one in the P4 dual core range. Also, I doubt at my level that I will be overclocking.

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) (MY-092-CS)

or is the memory a bit over the top for the system? i.e. could use cheaper memory?

any help is most appreciated.

sounds really good and I would think about getting a 1800 graphics card

Stelly

pretty pricey as well lol

wasn't thinking about spending that much on a graphics card :(

should I? I could afford it dont get me wrong.

At one for 146 quid i think the 1800XT is a good buy. You can get the BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT for 88 quid on this week only.
