I usually just run a few VM's & play MMO's primarily so no FPS

Notice that WOW & Eve run better on Intel CPU's so was thinking of doing a side move until Zen rears its head

I could switch to the 4790k from my FX8350 pretty much for free

What do you think?
 
I usually game at 1080p but fancy getting more 4K for WOW or at least Ultra Settings

The FX8350 does everything I want it to but playing WOW with better Eye candy would be nice
 
4790k is a great cpu, for gaming will perform considerably better than fx8350 (at the moment anyway) dx12 could help with amd low level api issues, but I would say go for the 4790k
 
4690k would be a better choice there's very few games that will give you much more frames from have 4 more cores/threads but depends on the price you pay obviously if you bag a 4790k for £50 more then it's worth it.

At the moment the 4690k would be a wise choice, but the 4790k is a sound investment as it will last well into the DX12 era
 
I run an overclocked 4790k at 4.8GHZ. There's not a lot faster out there in single core speed tests and for those that are faster it's a tiny tiny percentage.
 
I went from an 8350 to a 2700k and was honestly surprised at how much difference there was - specifically in minimum framerates. In quite a few games i'd see dips below 60 on the 8350, but since switching to Intel I've had no dips at all. So if you can switch on the cheap, or practically for free then definitely go for it, you won't regret it :)
 
I'm considering getting hold of this CPU as well, upgrading from a 970BE. Maybe pairing it with an Asus Z97-P
 
I have a 4790K and MSI Z97M Gaming Motherboard. About to build my first custom loop and thought about for a while if it was going to go Skylake,Haswell-E or Broadwell-E and decided in end for Gaming I was going be fine with my 4790K for a few more years might reconsider when Skylake-E comes out.
