Stock AMD fan

Hey. I got an AMD Athlon XP Barton 2600 (1921.321MHz, 3846.33 Bogomips).
I've seriously contemplated OC-ing it, but I only got a stock AMD fan. I'm wondering, will these things handle the extra heat or do I need a more "professional" fan?

(I can't afford water cooling)

Thanks :)

depends on a few things. Best idea is check what temps you have now (idle and underload) if its not too high oc it a bit and recheck. You may be able to do it with the stock fan.
Post your current temps if your not sure.

An after market cooler is never a bad thing, though if you don't want to splash out on one, maybe try buying some arctic silver 5 heat paste and applying that instead of the stock paste. That will drop the temps quite a bit.

modo77: Is that safe to do?
Shiz: I got AS5, using it for a year now.

Another thing I'm wondering about is that sometimes, my computer starts like pulsating noise. I don't know whether the CPU fan, the GPU fan or the power supply is making it.
(What i mean is that, let's say "shhhhh" is the regular noise. It often starts going like "shhhSHHHshhhhSHHshhhSHHH", quite randomly. It quits after some time, or if I move the computer.

The power supply is a relatively new Fortron/Source 400W one. I don't think it's causing it.
I've tried to localise the sound by opening the case and listening, but it just didn't happen then.
